ALL students are expected to follow the Shirakawa School rules of being a SHARK.
Able to solve problems
Responsible and Respectful
To promote academic and social growth for students, a system of positive discipline will be used in the classroom at all times. Behavior expectations and consequences need to be clearly understood by students, parents, and teachers.
The method of discipline used is fair, firm, and consistent, non-emotional, productive, and provides a high level of school-home communication. Logical and natural consequences are used when disciplining a child.
Please sign up for Class Dojo. This tool will help us stay better connected, and you will be able to see your child's daily progress!
If a student does not follow one of the school rules he/she will be prompted to make better choices.
Stage 1: VERBAL WARNING
Students will receive a warning if a behavior does not exemplify what is expected of a Shirakawa SHARK. A verbal warning is given on a first offense. If the behavior is positively changed and no offenses have been made for the rest of the day, the student's behavior card will remain green exemplifying that the student is "ready to learn".
Stage 2: YELLOW CARD
A verbal warning has been given but the undesired behavior continues, or another offense has been made. The student will flip his/her green card to a yellow card on the behavior chart. This is considered his/her 2nd warning.
Stage 3: RED CARD
The student has received a yellow card on the behavior chart, however, the behavior repeats or an additional offense has been made. The teacher will have a 1-on-1 meeting with the student to refocus the behavior. The student will fill out a yellow refocus form. The form will be sent home the day it was completed.
Please take time to discuss the incident with your child and sign the bottom of the form.
The ultimate goal is for your child to understand their action and know how to solve the problem differently should the same situation presents itself. I want your child to know that we are all working together.
You will see a notification on Class Dojo when your child receives a refocus form.
At this stage, the student may lose privileges such as loss of recess or activities.
Stage 4: CONFERENCE WITH PARENT AND/OR PRINCIPAL
If behavior continues or a severe offense has been made, a call will be made.
If behavior or offenses continues, a conference will be held with the principal and/or parent.
At this stage, the student may lose privileges to go on field trips or participate in school/class events.
